Tepla® PAI

NFD has improved TPI's flowability and solved the processing difficulty and therefore created Tepla® PAI. It can be shaped into all kinds of sophisticated products with injection molding technology, and thus, the production efficiency will be greatly improved. Tepla® PAI has better heat resistance, molding strength, dimensional stability and wear resistance than those of other engineering plastics. We can effectively modify and improve the properties of Tepla® PAI, such as by adding a special lubricant to improve its wear resistance and by adding glass fiber and carbon fiber so that its heat resistance and mechanical strength can be improved. Through these ways, we can offer various choices for our customers.

 

 

 


Highlights and Limitations


Highlights:

1. Small thermal expansion coefficient which brings the best dimensional stability when the temperature is within 250℃

2. Excellent self-lubrication, wear resistance and frictional behavior

3. Excellent anti-ultraviolet property

4. Inherent flame retardancy

5. Excellent strength, electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, and high-energy radiation resistance

6. Excellent heat resistance

 

Limitations:

1. Liable to be damaged by chemicals

2. Hot steam will lead to a decrease in its performance (PEEK might be our customers’ first choice when it is necessary to work under high temperature and the environment has strict requirements for chemical properties and hydrolysis resistance)

3. Relatively high price with small output





Tepla® PAI performance comparison of different grades
Tepla® PAI materials offer excellent wear and high temperature resistance and maintain high toughness and mechanical strength under specific conditions. Moreover, its thermal expansion coefficient is small, and it has good dimensional stability in the temperature range of 250 ° C; different modified additions will change the properties of the original base resin, so that it can be more effectively applied to the required environment. The figure below shows the different properties of Tepla® PAI base resin after adding glass fiber, carbon fiber, PTFE and graphite.



Comparison of wear resistance between Tepla® PAI (T8000) and Tepla® PAEK (T7100) and Tepla® PEEK (T7000)
Tepla® PAI material has excellent wear resistance and its wear resistance can be further improved by adding carbon fiber, PTFE, graphite and the like. Compared with other wear-resistant materials such as Tepla® PAEK, Tepla® PEEK, etc., after adding carbon fiber, PTFE, graphite, etc., Tepla® PAI has no mechanical advantage, but wear resistance in wet and dry environment. Obviously there are effective advantages. The figure below shows the comparison of the wear resistance of Tepla® PAI, Tepla® PAEK and Tepla® PEEK.



Tepla® PAI (T8100) vs. metal tensile strength
The highlight of Tepla® PAI material is not only the wear resistance, but also a kind of new high-speed special plastic. Tepla® PAI also has excellent mechanical properties. After modification of glass fiber, carbon fiber, PTFE, etc., the strength and rigidity can exceed some metals, and it can be used as a material for high-precision parts and high-strength parts. The following figure shows the tensile strength of Tepla® PAI after adding PTFE and some metals. From the figure, we can see that Tepla® PAI has higher tensile strength than aluminum alloy after modification with PTFE. Tensile strength similar to magnesium.
